🤖🤖 The ICO recently published an overview reports about the use of AI tools in recruitment processes. While it was recognised that it can offer benefits to employers, it recognises their use can also lead to risks for people and their privacy and information rights.
The ICO completed an audit with developers and providers of artificial intelligence powered sourcing, screening and selection tools in recruitment processes.
The auditors found areas for improvement in data protection compliance and management of privacy risks.
Many providers, but not all, monitored the accuracy and bias of their AI tools and took action to improve them.
Some tools collected far more personal information than was needed, sometimes mixed with other people's data to create databases.
If you are considering using an AI assisted tool for recruitment, we recommend:
Contacting your DPO about supplier due diligence. Our customers can review our Supplier Due Diligence Best Practice Area for further advice and guidance.
In addition, ensure that:
The tool only collects the data that is necessary.
You should ensure that if you are using AI in any processes that involve decision making about individuals, you ensure there is a human review as part of the process. You should test AI regularly to check for any unfairness and anonymise data where possible.
Always ensure that staff know how to use an AI tool responsibly.
