SAR Extension Template
We've uploaded a Subject Access Request Extension Template to the SAR Best Practice Library.
Why might you need a SAR extension?
While the standard deadline for a Subject Access Request is one month, an organisation might need to apply an extension of up to two months if the request is manifestly complex or numerous. Examples of when an extension might be needed:
- technical difficulties in retrieving the information – for example if the data is electronically archived;
- the request involving large volumes of particularly sensitive information;
- potential issues around disclosing information about a child to a legal guardian;
- you need to seek specialist legal advice; and
- any specialist work involved in redacting information or communicating it in an accessible way
